ARVIKA history

Seen historically, ARVIKA is the result of the effective conflation of AUGRE and ASSIST, two proposals for the BMBF ideas competition on the subject of the interaction between humans and technology in the knowledge society of the future:

AUGRE - manufacture and servicing of complex technical apparats with the
aid of augmented reality technologies, and
ASSIST - Multi-modal support systems for specialists of the future.

The essential driving force behind AUGRE was the team around Prof. Encarnacao of the Fraunhofer Institut für Grafische Datenverarbeitung[graphic data processing] in Darmstadt, behind ASSIST was the team around Prof. Luczak und Weck from the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen.

The partners from industry were instrumental in bringing together the technical ideas from these two consortiums. The intention was to ensure that top-class know-how with regard to the fundamental technologies, and recognised experience with regard to programmes and user-orientation would be available as the basis of a convincing project which promised success.
